Too Many Radio Stations
Sir, —It is the proclaimed ideal of the Labour Government to have the radio in every home, but in actual fact the present practice of broadcasting in Wellington is having the opposite effect. The advent of 2ZB has produced chaos among those who have that class of wireless set known as “local receiver,” which were sold in thousands a few years ago, and are still in use, and were giving good service. In some cases 2ZB covers the whole dial, and even conflicts with 2YA in the Hutt A’alley. It seems abfiird to establish so powerful a station in the city after 2Y A has been moved away to prevent inter ference. It is very evident that there are too many conflicting stations on the air at present in Australia and New Zealand and wo are heading for th" ehaotie eondi tion of Europe if the Government eon tinnes its present policy. Unless *2ZB is more finelv tuned, or its power reduced nr moved to an outside locaVty. it mean; that broadcast rooenGon is to bo limit;*--to this station or to flne I v-‘’elontive. high noworod and hi"h n v icc<l radio receivers which are bevonfl the reach of the working classes. —I am. etc., REACTION. Lower Hutt. May 5.
