Second Day of Gisborne Cattle Fair Dominion Special Service. Gisborne, May 6. Ou the second day of the Gisborne cattle fair, further offerings of weauers increased their entry to 5800. Female cattle followed. Outside buyers from Wanganui to Rotorua were operating, and secured good drafts. Top price for breeding cows was £6/12/6, outstanding lines making £6 upward, good £5 to £6, and good cows iu light condition to £4/1.1/ — but generally £3/2/- to £3/16/-. Empty cows, fat and forward, made £5; forward £4, store condition £3, £3/14/- down to £l/16/- for light grown. Extra quality 31-year Hereford heifers made £7/17/-. a" few first-class pens £7/7/- to £7/8/-, good £(i-" l 2.''- W £6/15/-. many £5 to £6: IS month tieil’ers. good. £4/11/-, £4/13/-. £4/16/ . The total entry for the two days, fats and stores, was 9900. No male cattle are eligible for this fair. Fordell Sale Wanganui. May 6. At the Fordell sale yesterday the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., offered a good yarding of 4500 ewes and lambs, and 250 head of cattle, to a moderate attendance of buyers. . At the beginning of the sale heavy driving rain drove all but the keenest 'buyers to shelter. Although passings were frequent at auction, many buyers who forsook the auction for shelter camo back after the rain had cleared and dealt privately with vendors, who were willing to meet the market, in some cases at prices below expectations, but this cau be attributed to the extreme weather conditions. Practically the whole of the yarding was disposed of. Ewes met with a ready sale. A’lino of mixed aged ewes mated . with the Down rams realised 29/-, and soundmouthed ewes, r.w. Southdown rains, brought from 23/- to 26/6. A good line of early shorn white-face wether lambs realised 20/6, and a good line of woolly wether lambs made 21/6. Ewe lambs sold to 28/6. Cattle sold at late rates, a high-class line of 38 weaner P.A. steers realising £5/15/-. Realisations were as follows :— M.a. ewes, r.w. Southdown rams, 29/-; s.m. ewes, r.w. Southdown rams, 23/- to 26/6; good early shorn wether lambs, 19/-. 20/6. 21/6: medium wether lambs, 14/6 to 17J,-: small lambs, 11/8 to 12/6; ewe lambs. 28/6, 27/-, 23/6; fattening ewes. 11/6, 12/3, 17/-. 1Q Wenner P.A. steers, £o/15/-; 18months P.A. steers, £6/11/-; weaner P.A. heifers. £3/14/-; weaner P.A. steers, £5., Waipukurau Horse Sale Dominion Special Service. Waipukurau, May 6. At the sale of horses conducted by the Hawke’s May Farmers’ Co-operative Association, the highest price was £6O for a bav mare, six years, all places except shafts. A gelding, all places except shafts, sold for £44/10/- £ bay mare, eight years, all places, £5O; bay mare, six years, all places except shafts, £5l; black gelding, five years, chains, £46 10/-: bay gelding, eight years, all places, £45; bay gelding, eight years, all places, £53/10/-; aged bay gelding, all places, £36/10/- aud £45/10/-; seven-year hack. £23/10/-.
