WRESTLERS DRAW
Kirilinko and Forsgren Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, May 6. Making his first appearance in the Dominion, Matroe Kirilinko (16.8) met Jack Forsgren (17.0) in the opening bout of the wrestling sveon at Palmerston North to-night, Kirilinko having to be content to share the honours, although he showed a wider range of holds. He was of splendid physique, like a dancer, and Forsgren appeared cumbersome in comparison. The bout was quite colourful, Forsgren showing that he was still the bad boy of old. The first fall came in the fifth round. Kirilinko following up a series of forearm jolts with a couple of headlocks prior to picking up Forsgren for a dump and a fall. In the seventh Forsgren turned his opponent over to apply a boston crab and equalise the falls, the Russian’s nimbleness being absent on this occasion. The decision of a draw met rather a mixed reception. Results of the preliminary amateur bouts were as follows: W. Brown (9.6) beat W. Smith (9.6), one fall to nil; D. Cudby (11.2) beat J. McConachie (11.5), one fall; J. Young (10.5) beat SV. Goodall (11.0) on points; B. Matson (10.4) beat J. Johnston (10.7), Taranaki, one fall. STEIN WINS AT TIMARU Timaru, May 6. The wrestling season opened at Timaru to-night when Sammy Stein beat Don Mclntyre by one fall in the seventh round. It was obtained with a body press following a series of flying tackles. The bout was a tame one,, Stein appearing to have the measure of his opponent at any stage.
