Advances to State Decrease STERLING EXCHANGE LOWER The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, May 3, is as follows:-— LIABILITIES.

Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No. 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 75.374 per cent., compared with 73.699 per cent, on April 26. A further decline of £36,548 brings the total of the note issue down to £12,920,355. Demand liabilities to the State have decreased by £976,102, the amount now standing at £6,733,178. The trading banks’ reserve balances total £9,826,480, a decrease of £39,860. Other demand liabilities at £954,231, show an increase of £48,690. Other liabilities total £125,139, a decrease of £l5-17. Sterling exchange amounts to £20,137,900, a decrease of £171.113. Gold remains unchanged at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin at £144.462 is less by £1446. Advances to the State dairy industry account show a decrease of £66,527, the total now being £5,782,544. Advances to the State for other purposes amount to £200,000, a decrease of £700,000. Investments are unchanged at £2,906,450. Other assets amount to £86,237, an increase of £13,440. The statement balances at £32,059,38-1. a decrease of £925,646.
