CHARGES FOR SPRINGBOK MATCHES
Hawke’s Bay Union Protests Dominion Special Service. Hastings, May 6. Members of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union expressed the unanimous opinion that charges for provincial matches against the Springboks were too high. “I consider the prices excessive. A protest should be made asking the New Zealand union to reconsider its decision,” said Mr. J. W. Callaghan, acting-chairman of the Hawke’s Bay union. Mr. C. McLean concurred with this idea. It was suggested by Mr. N. A. McKenzie that the New Zealand liugby Union be asked to substitute the prices applying at the time of the tour of the English Rugby team in 1930 for those arranged. It was decided to carry out the suggestion.
