The outbreak had a strong hold before it was noticed, mid in’consequence the Lower Hutt volunteer fire brigade had to face a lath call. On arrival'the building was burning fiercely and the job of combating the flames was a difficult one. There was little left of the contents. The brigade, however, succeeded in confining the outbreak to the one building. Moro Firemen Wanted. A shortage in the fire-fighting strength was reported at the annual meeting of the Silverstream volunteer tire brigade. The following officers were elected : — Superintendent, W. Mason; deputysuperintendent, T. A. Harlen; foreman. R. F. Langdon; secretary, Mr. G. F. Holecroft; treasurer, Mr. T. A. Harlen; executive. Messrs. W. Mason, T. A. HarleUj R. F. Langdon, G. F. Holecroft, and C. Hannibal. Coronation Ball. Invitations have now been issued for the coronation ball to be hold at Lower Hutt on Muv 12. Arrangements are well advanced. The most recent progress has been the realisation of an idea for taking as many dancers as possible off the floor. This is to be done by the provision of the existing supper-room as an elaborate lounge. To make this possible the permission of the horticultural society had to be obtained to allow marquees to be erected outside the hall for supper purposes.
