Walters. and three Indians. Veteran Shipmaster Dead The death occurred last month in London at the age of 86 of Captain T. S. Angus, one of tlie best-known of the old-time commanders in the P.' aud O. service and. in his later years, a keen and prominent yachtsman. Born at Inverkeithing lu 1851. ho studied at Leith Nautical College and in 1866 was apprenticed to P. Henderson and Co., Glasgow. He served in their sailing ships Wild Deer and Peter Denny, ■which traded regularly to New Zealand, and after gaining his first mate's certificate in both sail and steam he joined the P. and O. Company in 1875 and remained with them for 47 years. He started as fifth officer, and a year after obtaining his master’s ticket in 1881 he was made chief officer of the Lombardy. Five years later, when In the Clyde, he lost his right band as a result of an injury from a swinging anchor, but it did hot affect his career. His first command came in 1889, when he was given the Can- , ton, *nd after some two years in her ho spent a period ashore superintending the building of P. and O. liners at Middlesbrough, Barrow and Greenock. On returning to sea he commanded in turu the Bai'iarat, Britannia, China and Macedonia, coming ashore again in 1904 as nautical inspector at. the London office, a position from which he retired in 1922. Captain Angus, besides having been a Younger Brother of Trinity House siuce 1904. was seamanship examiner of the Worcester cadets from 1906 to 1926, a member of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and of its court from 1930 to 1936. and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. RARANGA DUE. The Shaw, Suvttt and Albion liner Raranga is expected to arrive at Wellington to-day from Lyttelton to complete loading. She is to sail on Friday for London. Avoninouth. Liverpool and Glasgow, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. ARDENVOHR FROM NEW YORK. From the Ardenvohr the Federal Company lias received a radio message that she expects to arrive at Auckland from Now York at 6 a.m. to-morrow. From there she will come south to Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin.

HURUNUI CLEARS DAKAR. Cabled advice has been received by the Federal Company that the Hurunui. which left Wellington 'on March 11 and cleared Montevideo on April 1. sailed from Dakar on April 15 on route to London.

RADIO FROM AKAROA. X radio message has been received by the Shaw.’ Savill and Albion Company that the Akaroa expects to arrive at Auckland at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

ALLER FROM SYDNEY. Advice has been received by Gollin and Company that the German steamer Aller will leave Svdnev on May 1 for Lyttelton, where she is due on the 4th or sth. After loading there she will go to Dunedin for further loading, and will leave there on May 8 for the Continent.

MONTEREY AT SYDNEY. The Mouterev arrived at Sydney on Monday from Auckland. She leaves Melbourne on Saturday and Sydney on the following Wednesday for Auckland, arriving on Saturday. May 1, sailing the same day for ban Francisco.

MATUA LEAVES APIA. The Matna left Apia on Monday for Suva and sails from that port on Thursday for Auckland, arriving next Monday.
