Industrial Agreement Reached A conference took place at Reefton hist week between delegates representing Alexander Mines, Limited, and the Alexander Gold Mines Employees Industrial Union of Workers, with a view to ar-r-.nging for an industrial agreement to be registered under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act as an award of the court. The union was registered on January 13. 1937. Mr. S. Ritchie, conciliation commissioner, presided at the conference, which reached an agreement to cover a period of two years. The rates of pay adopted were those awarded by the Arbitration Court to the Blackwater Mines on November 25, 193(i, with the addition of 2/- per shift, which is a payment made on account of the isolation of the Alexander Mines, and remains effective until '■ road which is now being constructed into the mine is made fit for vehicular traffic to the swing bridge at the Alexander River. This means that miners will re reive 19/9 per shift plus 2/-, with other rate: for the various classes of labour in the same proportions. Forty hours is to be observed as the working week, and various other minor details were satisfactorily adjusted.
