SKELETON FOUND ON FARM
Thought to be Man Missing in 1934 Dominion Special Service Hastings, April 20. Discovery of tile skeleton of an adult person on Awapiko Station, the property of Mr. A. W. Darragh, about,2s miles from Hastings, resulted in detective Campin, Hastings, and Constable Gartley, Taradale. being dispatched to make investigations. The skeleton, which was discovered this morning, is probably that of a male, and, although the information received bv the police so far is meagre, it is tliought that the remains have been on the property for approximately two years. The skeleton was evidently partlv concealed by scrub or bush, and was found at a distance of about a mile from the station homestead. During a search of the vicinity, portions of an old military coat were round, and from these and other indications it is surmised that the remains are those of an elderly man, William Ferguson Wishart. who was reported missing from his home at Pakowhai on November 2, 1934. At the time an unsuccessful search was carried on for several weeks, and Karamu Creek was thoroughly dragged in an effort to find the body. In an attempt to establish identity. Mr. Head, brother-in-law of the missing Mr. Wishart. was called into the police station at Hastings Ibis evening to view the remains, and be was practically cerlain that the remains were those of the missing man. However, further corroborative evidence will pro b.ihly be required by the police before identification is regarded as established.
