VIOLINIST’S DEATH

Skull Fractured by Hammer Blows (Received 'April 20, 7.20 p.m.) New York, April 19. Julia Nussenbaum, aged 24, a violinist, died in hospital nine hours after she was found unconscious behind the draperies in a rehearsal studio with her skull fractured by blows from a hammer, which was left nearby. Employees' saw a man leave hastily. The body was discovered by a woman dancer practising in the studio. The violinist was preparing for an engagement at a Toronto cabaret. Mischa Ress, a booking agent, was arrested, and collapsed when told that the girl was dead. He admitted having struck her. He was hysterical as the result of heavy drinking, he said. They quarrelled because he wanted to return to his estranged wife and the violinist refused to allow him to leave.
