Winter Gatherings Begin The opening of the winter social season of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. took place in the gymnasium on Saturday night, a large number of members and friends attending. Mr. J. G. Oliver welcomed the guests and invited them to be present at forthcoming monthly gatherings. Dr. F. M. Spencer, president of the association’s swimming club, presented club trophies to R. Scott (winner of the Crouch Cup competition), L. Waller, C. L. Hulston and L. Appleton, most improved swimmer. The evening was spent in dancing and novelty items, and community singing, led by Mr. Harry Wilson. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. J. White. Other members of the committee were Messrs. IM. Lane, G. D. Hall, E. Moucur, D. Carson, W. B. Ross, O. Spratt, F. Bishop, D. Gwynn and R. J. Scott. Miss E. Bennell, newly-appointed activities secretary of the Y.W.C.A., was introduced to the gathering, and she extended an invitation to a similar series of regular dances to be commenced shortly by the Y.W.C.A., and also a proposed ballroom dancing class.
