Archdeacon L. C. Whitehead left Wellington for the South Island last night. Mr. R. J. Murphy, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mr. J. E. Henrys left Wellington for the South Island last night. The Hon. W. Waite, M.L.C., was a passenger for the South Island last night. The Hon. T. O'Byrne, M.L.C., Invercargill, left Wellington last night for the South Island. Mr. A. M. N. Shirtcliff, Timaru, visited Wellington yesterday and returned south last night. Mr. R. Wilson Brown, of the Railways Advertising Department, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Dunedin. Mr. N. W. Nelson was yesterday reelected chairman of the Wellington Fire Board for the ensuing twelve months.
Mr. H. Lightband returned to 'Wellington from the South Island yesterday and left again for the south last night. Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Duthie, New Plymouth, were passengers for the South Island by the steamer express last night. Mr. A. G. Brown, general manager of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, is on a business visit to Wellington. Major A. J. Edney, of the New Zealand Defence Force, who has been on a visit to Auckland, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr. C. P. Wilkinson, who has been in the 'Wellington Magistrate’s Court office for four and a half years, has been transferred to Hastings. Mr. L. J. Berry, secretary of the New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors’ Association, was a passenger for the south by the inter-island ferry last night. Mr. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity, was a passenger for the South Island last night. Mr. F. J. Shanks, acting-Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, who has been visiting Dunedin, returned to Wellington this morning. Mr. D. E. Wanklyn, a member of the New Zealand Cricket Council and of the New Zealand Racing Conference executive, left Wellington last night for the south. Mr. George Manning, Dominion secretary of the 'Workers’ Educational Association, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Christchurch and left again for the south last night. Mr. Philip Paterson, Auckland, who has been appointed to a position in the Sydney oflice of the General Electric Company, Limited, left for Sydney by the Monterey yesterday. Mr. F. S. Morton, an original member of the Auckland Transport Board, who is now residing in England, has been on a visit to Auckland and is to leave by the Aorangi next Tuesday on his way to London. Dr. T. H. Pullar, M. 8., M.R.C.P. (London), at present on the staff of Mt. Vernon Hospital, Middlesex, England, has been appointed pathologist to the Palmerston North Hospital. Dr. Pullar was born at Auckland. Mr. R. W. Steel, of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the Auckland branch of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, and Abraham and Williams, Limited. Mr. H. O. Walker, formerly of the Lands Department, Paeroa, has been appointed to the position of property supervisor in the Native Department of the Coromandel, Paeroa and Wailii districts, with headquarters at Paeroa. Mr. Alexander Hamilton, Wellington manager for the Westport Coal Company, will leave for Auckland at the week-end to join the Aorangi for Vancouver. Mr. Hamilton is to make an extended tour of Canada, the United States and England. Mr. J. W. Huggins, chief city inspector, Christchurch, who has been attending the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Sanitary Institute at Auckland, left Wellington on his return south by the steamer express last night. The Rev. J. D. C. Madill, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Blenheim, has been appointed to the charge of St. George’s Church, Linwood, Christchurch. Mr. Madill is to succeed the Rev. A. McNeur, who was recently transferred to the Waiau parish.
Mr. A. H. Champion, who has been manager of the Auckland office of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd., for the last five years, has been promoted to the head office of the company in Sydney. He will leave by the Awatea on Wednesday. Mr. J. I’. Wildman, who has been connected with the Auckland office for some years, will succeed Mr. Champion as local manager. Mr. A. P. Thomson, B.For.Sc., only .son of the late Dr. Allan Thomson, New Zealand’s first Rhodes scholar, left this week for Great Britain and the Continent to further his studies in forestry. He has been on the staff of the Forestry Department. Palmerston North, for 19 months. He will lecture to climbers in England with the assistance of lantern slides and photographs. .Mr. Thomson is the holder of the New Zealand University record for the three-mile run, and is a keen alpinist.
