My Sandals
I have lost my sandals. I don’t know what to do; I left them on the seashore When I went paddling, too. Jack said that he would help me To find them, but I fear The tide came up and washed them Very far from here. Then, one day, while I wandered Along the sandy shore, I saw some queer-shaped brown things Not like the shoes I wore. I picked them up and shook them, some shells came tumbling out. Yes, there were my old sandals! Useless, without a doubt! —Jean R. Hawthorn (10), Waipukurau.
