A WAY WITH ANIMALS
Lion Tamer Faces Death
Once again Mr. Hans Brick, famous Hungarian animal-trainer, has laughed at death, said the “Sunday Chronicle” recently.
At his training headquarters Hans was in the cage with a tiger when suddenly the animal, with one lithe, lightning movement, turned upon him. Instead of showing fear, Hans coolly faced the snarling tiger and spoke soft words. In a few moments the deepthroated growl of the jungle-cat turned to purring as its trainer caressed the animal, which might have mauled him to death.
“When you have been 42 years dealing with the wildest of animals, you don’t pay much attention to small details like that,” Mr. Brick said after his experience. “For instance, had I shown the slightest sign of fear, my life might not have been worth twopence, but at the same time I must admit that there is .always deadly danger in the pounce of a ‘cat’ the size of mine.
“The whole secret is in keeping icecool and very quiet. Had I shouted or appeared alarmed —well, it would have been a different story.”
