Well-balanced Fields PROSPECTS REVIEWED (Bi Ovekcheck.) The Manawatu Trotting Club has received excellent acceptances for its meeting, which will be held on the Awapuni course to-day. Horses from Canterbury and Auckland will strengthen the fields, and the racing should be of a high standard having regard to the class of the competitors engaged. Betting will be conducted on a single pool basis, but there will be three dividends in the proportion of 70, 20 and 10 per cent, in fields of nine or more, nnd 75 and 25 per cent, in smaller fields down to a minimum of five starters. Crystal Chimes scr Child 84 King Gussie raced very consistently on the West Coast circuit, being placed in four of the five races he contested, but he is meeting better company in Ropata and Worthy Audubon, who appear to be the pick of those engaged in the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap. Gauge showed fair form ,at Clarcville at Christmas, while Grattan Girl ran second to Transfer at Thames when in receipt of 3G yards. Snowy Bingen also raced well enough at Wellington to suggest that he should soon be in the money. On the whole, however, the public may prefer Worthy Audubon, Grattan Girl and Ropata. 12.55— AWAPUNI HANDICAP, of £100; 3.47 class. One mile and a half. He should be a better horse now and may be the popular selection for the Awapuni Handicap. Musketeer raced well at Thames, winning the Turua Bracelet Handicap, while Trevor de Oro ran second to Northern Guy at Wanganui and was successful over I two miles, First Aid, conceding 12 yards, being fourth. The latter now comes in on 2-1 yards’ better terms. Mountain Flight and Savoldi, who separated the pair, are not now engaged. Possibly Trevor de Oro, Musketeer and First Aid will receive most support. 2.15— MANAWATU TROTTING CUP, of £210; 4.44 class. 'Two miles. Our Peggy has a great record at 14 miles, but failed at Thames over two miles. Still her connections have seen fit to accept in this race, which suggests that they were not satisfied that her Thames form was correct. Possibly the heavy track was against her. Impostor was second in the I Thames Cup, with Compass third. The | latter’s form has not been anything to ; enthuse over, nnd Impostor now has a more difficult task. Reno ran third to lied Flush and Loretta at Nelson, recording 4.31 2-5. Taking a line through Rod Flush, Reno must be respected. On Taranaki form Glorietta looks more likely than either Full Hand or Levity. ’Three likely to bo in demand arc Reno, Our Peggy and Glorietta. 2.55 — - LONGBURN HANDICAP, of £100; 3.5 class.
