MANAWATU TROTS

Well-balanced Fields PROSPECTS REVIEWED (Bi Ovekcheck.) The Manawatu Trotting Club has received excellent acceptances for its meeting, which will be held on the Awapuni course to-day. Horses from Canterbury and Auckland will strengthen the fields, and the racing should be of a high standard having regard to the class of the competitors engaged. Betting will be conducted on a single pool basis, but there will be three dividends in the proportion of 70, 20 and 10 per cent, in fields of nine or more, nnd 75 and 25 per cent, in smaller fields down to a minimum of five starters. The card is as follows: — 12.15— LADIES' BRACELET HANDICAP. of £100; 3.43 class. One mile and a half Little Acron .. scr Adverse scr Loyal Betty ... scr Pampas scr Loch Levon .. scr King Gussio . 12 Grattan Girl .. scr Ropata 36 Gauge scr Worthy Snowy Bingen . scr Audubon 36 Phari'na scr Tennessee’s . Crystal Chimes scr Child 84 King Gussie raced very consistently on the West Coast circuit, being placed in four of the five races he contested, but he is meeting better company in Ropata and Worthy Audubon, who appear to be the pick of those engaged in the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap. Gauge showed fair form ,at Clarcville at Christmas, while Grattan Girl ran second to Transfer at Thames when in receipt of 3G yards. Snowy Bingen also raced well enough at Wellington to suggest that he should soon be in the money. On the whole, however, the public may prefer Worthy Audubon, Grattan Girl and Ropata. 12.55— AWAPUNI HANDICAP, of £100; 3.47 class. One mile and a half. Querida scr Native Bird ... 36 Worthy Member scr Aerial Boy .... 60 Native Guy ... scr Unworthy .... 60 Hard Lad .... scr Dollar Maid .. 72 Aubrey’s Last . scr Bronte 81 Biworthy .... 12 Wrackless ... 108 Black Native .. 12 Arapai 120 Native Leaf ... 12 Bronte made his reappearance at the last Wellington meeting and trotted two fair races, finishing third to Tommy Boy and Indolent. He should be a better horse now and may be the popular selection for the Awapuni Handicap. Querida ran well at the recent Thames meeting, being placed twice, and with Biworthy may cause most trouble to Bronte. 1.35— POHANGINA HANDICAP, of £105; 3.57 class. One mile and five furlongs. Relax scr Effie Parrish . 36 Mr. Guy scr Baron Derby .. 36 Casino 12 Musketeer ... 48 Dusky Chum . 24 Trevor de Oro . 48 First Aid .... 36 Roadster .... 60 Waving Corn .36 Casino at her best would be hard to

dispose of in the Pohangina Handicap, ■ but she has not raced for some time. Musketeer raced well at Thames, winning the Turua Bracelet Handicap, while Trevor de Oro ran second to Northern Guy at Wanganui and was successful over I two miles, First Aid, conceding 12 yards, being fourth. The latter now comes in on 2-1 yards’ better terms. Mountain Flight and Savoldi, who separated the pair, are not now engaged. Possibly Trevor de Oro, Musketeer and First Aid will receive most support. 2.15— MANAWATU TROTTING CUP, of £210; 4.44 class. 'Two miles. Baron Grand . scr Franz Derby Silver Black .. scr (T.) scr Our Peggy .. scr Reno scr Impostor scr Levity 12 Teri King! ... scr Full Hand ... 24 Doris Derby .. scr Native Cole ... 24 Red Frontier . scr Glorietta 48 The distance will probably find weak spots in most of the runners in the Manawatu Trotting Gup. Our Peggy has a great record at 14 miles, but failed at Thames over two miles. Still her connections have seen fit to accept in this race, which suggests that they were not satisfied that her Thames form was correct. Possibly the heavy track was against her. Impostor was second in the I Thames Cup, with Compass third. The | latter’s form has not been anything to ; enthuse over, nnd Impostor now has a more difficult task. Reno ran third to lied Flush and Loretta at Nelson, recording 4.31 2-5. Taking a line through Rod Flush, Reno must be respected. On Taranaki form Glorietta looks more likely than either Full Hand or Levity. ’Three likely to bo in demand arc Reno, Our Peggy and Glorietta. 2.55 — - LONGBURN HANDICAP, of £100; 3.5 class. One mile and a quarter. Blngeu Fashion scr Crystal Chimes ser Little Aeron' . scr Captain Potts scr Loyal Betty . scr Hal Pointer .. scr Tapanul Lady scr Adverse ser Grattan Girl .. scr King Gussie . 12 Sandusky ... scr Worthy Audubon 36 Gauge scr Relax 36 Snowy Bingen ser Ropata 36 Pharlna scr Form in the opening event will need to be considered in assessing the prospects of those engaged in the Longburn Handicap, but on past form preference may be shown for Worthy Audubon, Grattan Girl and King Gussie. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of £105; 3.0 class. Ono mile and a quarter. » Travisque .... scr Waving Corn . 24 Mr. Guy scr Effie Parrish . 24 Casino scr Baron Derby . 24 Tennessee’s Musketeer ... 36 Child 12 Silver Black .. 48 First Aid .... 24 Decov Bird ... 48 Orleigh Mills . 24 Juggler 48 Dandy Locanda 24 Most of those engaged in the Stewards’ Handicap are engaged earlier in the day. Travisque is a fresli horse that raced well on the West Coast circuit, but First Aid, Casino and Musketeer may be the choice of investors. 4.15— McDonald handicap, of £155; 5.0 class. Two miles. Waingako .... scr Aerial Boy .. 36 Native Bird .. scr Dollar Maid ... 48 Querida scr Bronte GO Black Native . scr Wrackless ... 96 Native Leaf .. scr Arapai 108 Hard Lad .. scr Tan John .... 108 Unworthy ... 24 Querida, Bronte and Arapai are three that should be capable of good showings in the McDonald Handicap, but it may be necessary to consider some of the other runners according to their displays in the Awapuni Handicap. 4.55— PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, of £150; 2.54 class. One mile and a quarter. Silver Black . scr Decoy Bird .. scr Activity scr Reno scr Our Peggy .. scr Juggler scr Roadster .... scr Levity 12 Red Frontier . scr Storm Queen . 12 Doris Derby .. scr Full Hand ... 24 Electric Bell . scr Native C01e..... 24 Impostor .... scr Silk Cord 24 Teri King! .. scr Glorietta 36 The concluding event is probably the most open one of the day, and betting is likely to be well distributed. Two that the distance will suit admirably are Our Peggy and Electric Bell and they may receive most support. Next to this pair, Reno and Doris Derby may make the strongest appeal.
