PUKEKO AN ABSENTEE

Form and Prospects (By The Watciieb.) The annual meeting of the Nelson Jockey Club will open at Richmond today, and conclude on Monday. Fields are satisfactory, though the class is not strong, and the North Islanders should win their share. Unfortunately for B. Burgess his best prospect, Pukeko, was kicked by Lady Siegfried, and had to be left behind. The Richmond track, with the fine weather, will be firm and fast. It is a stayers’ course, the straight being two furlongs, with a stiff up-hill finish. Betting will be on the single pool system (75-25), with the exception that in fields of 11 or over it will be (70-20-10). However, there is not much prospect of such a large field. The following horses may be supported in their engagements:— Novice Handicap. — Ohanga and Potent. Hope Hack.—Grampian and Derive. Nelson Cup.—Davistock and Pladie. Licensed Victuallers’ Hack. —Lady Siegfried and Revival. Stewards’ Handicap.—Arena and Impersonator. Electric Hack. —Potent and Prince Mulla. , „ Waimea Handicap.—Pladie and Bon Tray. The card is as follows: — NOVICE HANDICAP, of £75. Two-year-olds 7.11, three-year-olds and over 8.8. Five furlongs. Gay Sceptre Arrowin Bit o’ Blue King’s Choice Adieux Southern Blood Ohanga Haggis Potent
