Late Commercial GRAIN AND PRODUCE
Canterbury Markets By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, April 16. Grain and produce markets have remained quiet all this week, with little business passing in any line. The small seeds trading season is about over, and little is moving here. There has been a fair amount of interest in potatoes, though not a great deal of business is passing. Quotations remain firm. Fowl wheat is very scarce, and _ there appears to be not enough to satisfy the local trade. North Island poultrymen are finding it very difficult to obtain supplies. The crops dug so far have in most districts turned out very well. Business in onions is practically at a standstill. Buying is from hand to mouth, and many thousands of tons are held on farms awaiting purchasers. .Some white clover has been offered, and the quality appears to be quite good. Up to 10M1. has been paid. Early samples of red clover have also made their appearance, and the quality of those lines so far handled is excellent. Yields also appear to be good. Merchants’ ideas of values are 611. to 7d., but the deciding factor in prices will be the size of the crop. Chaff is very firm at £3/15/-. Little cutting has been done lately, and supplies are scarce. Some of the new season’s which has appeared has not been particularly good quality. KING SOLOMON RETURN By Telegraph—Press Association.
