Hospital Fees

Sir. —After reading your leading article this morning in reference to the hospital services, it appears to be only fair to the hospital board that certain facts should be made available to the public and carefully analysed. First of all. the following table sets out the actual figures for all receipts:— Main- Rents,

These figures reveal that the total fees collected last year (£32,165) are £6445 more than were collected two years previously, an increase of 25 per cent, in actual collections. Further, for the current year, the Wellington Hospital Board is estimating to receive £28,066 in inpatient maintenance fees, a 33 1-3 per cent, increase over the collections in 193435, while other fees (dental, out-patients, X-ray and bacteriological) are estimated to produce £7050, a 63 per cent, increase over the actual receipts three years ago. These figures speak for themselves, and, I feel sure, show that the board is fully alive to its duty to collect fees from ail who are in a position to pay, either in full or in part.—l am, etc., A. H. CARMAN, Late Chairman Fees Committee, Wellington Hospital Board. April 16.
