Ministerial. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left last night for Christchurch to open the annual conference of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association there to-day. Sir William Hunt, managing director of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., is visiting Auckland. Wing Commander the Hon. R. A. Cochrane arrived from Lyttelton by the steamer express yesterday. Major A. F. Purvis, military secretary to the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, left Wellington for the South Island by the steamer express last night. He was accompanied by Mrs. Purvis. Mr. A. 11. Johnstone, K.C., Auckland, is visiting Wellington. Mr. M. K. Drailin, Auckland, is on a business visit to Wellington. Mr. F. W. Furkert, Wellington, left for the north by the Limited last night. The Hon. B. Martin, M.L.C., arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Limited. Dr. L. Gordon Drury, Auckland, arrived at Wellington yesterday from the north. Mr. and Mrs. R. Greenslade, Dunedin, left Wellington for the south last night. Dr. Martin B. M. Tweed, Heretaunga, returned to Wellington yesterday from the south. The Hon. W. 11. Mclntyre, M.L.C., left for the south by the steamer express last night. The Rev. G. F. McKenzie, Drury, has been elected moderator of the Presbytery of South Auckland. Mr. J. T. Paul, Dunedin, who has been visiting Auckland, left Wellington last night on bis return south. Mr. C. Morgan Williams, M.P. for Kaiapoi, arrived at Wellington yesterday from the South Island. Dr. H. W. Jack, Director of Agriculture for Fiji, arrived at Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Mr. D. 11. S. Riddiford, Martinborough, was a passenger from the south by the steamer express yesterday. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, acting-Director of School Hygiene, returned to Wellington yesterday after a short visit to Wanganui. Mr. K. M. Sleight, secretary to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, was a passenger for the South Island last night. Mr. C. K. Grierson, Auckland, arrived at Wellington yesterday to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Survey Board. Captain A. Reid, of the Union Steam Ship Company, who has been on a holiday visit to Auckland, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr. S. J. Lamorna Birch, R.A., and Mrs. Birch are to spend the week-end in the Wairarapa, returning to Wellington early next week. Mr. C. G. C. Dormer, chairman of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, and Mrs. Dermer left Auckland by the Awatea for Sydney on the first stage of a holiday trip to England. Mr. F. Eggleton, formerly of the London headquarters staff of Thos. Cook and Son, is touring New Zealand. He arrived in Australia via Japan, and will return to England by the Ruabine. Mr. R. I. Allan has been appointed Government representative on the Post and Telegraph Department’s Board of Appeal. Mr. Allan retired from the department last December after 42 years’ service, during 11 of which he occupied the position of inspector. Mr. D. J. McGowan, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, has returned from a visit to the South Island. While in Christchurch he attended the luncheon tendered by the Lyttelton Harbour Board to the admiral and officers of the Australian fleet. Dr. J. Catarinich, the newlyappointed Director of Mental Hygiene for Victoria, who is visiting New Zealand to study methods used in the treatment of patients in mental hospitals, left Wellington by the Limited last night for Auckland, where he is to visit the mental hospital at Kingseat. He was accompanied by Dr. T. C. Gray, Director-General of the Mental Hospitals Department. Captain J. Corbett-Scott, Epsom, Auckland, yesterday celebrated his 99th birthday. He is the last survivor of the band of Pukekohe settlers who conducted a gallant defence 'of the East Pukekohe Church against a force of over 300 Maoris. He was born in Cornwall, and came to New Zealand with his parents when he was 20 years old. Captain and Mrs. Corbett-Scott have been married for about 63 years and have lived in their home on the Manukau Road for the past 36 years. In spite of his years, Captain CorbettScott is still able to manage his affairs himself.
