Last Night’s Meeting
The ordinary meeting of the Wellington Citv Council was held last night, the mayor,'Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, presiding. Also present were Crs. R. A. Wright, 31.1’., AV. J. Gaudin, L. McKenzie. W. Duncan, J. Burns, IV. /Appleton, M. F. Luckie, J. Read, ,R. McKeen, M.P., A. Black, C. 11. Chapman, M.P., Hon. T. Brindle. M.L.C., Cr. A. Parlane. It was decided to take no action to provide an evening bus service from the Kelburn cable car terminus to Karori.
Improvements are to be made to the lighting of Campbell, Calcutta and Warn Streets.
The concession granted blind persons using the tramcars is to be extended to all in receipt of the pension for the blind. The work of sealing Chisenhall Street, Karori, ie to be undertaken as soon as possible. A permit was granted to the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board to lay a cable on the pipe bridge, Petone. The connecting street between Shelly Bay Road and Maupuia Road is to be named Aranui Street, subject to the approval of the Geographic Board. A by-law is to be amended to enable traffic to proceed direct from Glenmore Street to Governor Road via The Rigi. The street known as Wooleombe Street, lying between Ghuznee Street and Abel Smith Street, ie to be considered as part of The Terrace. The foreshore road known as Tawa Street and lying between the city boundary and Island Bay Esplanade, is to be called Ohiro Bay Parade. A private-way between Clermont and Gladstone Terraces is to be taken over ns a public access-way and lighted. A building is to be erected in the Corporation Yard for the inspection of motor vehicles. With the necessary equipment it will cost £4500.
