NATIONAL SPORTS COUNCIL
Reception of Proposal Pleases Minister By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, April 14. The proposal to establish in the Dominion a National Sports Council with State recognition to co-ordinate and develop the interests of sports bodies for the promotion of the health, recreation and enjoyment of the people was referred to by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry. “I am delighted with the close consideration executives of sports activities are giving to this national effort,” said Mr. Parry. “Interest has definitely been aroused in what could be accomplished by an organisation of the kind in New Zealand for the spirited development of our sports. The publication of summaries of the proceedings of a conference I recently held in Parliament Buildings with New Zealand and Wellington representatives of sports bodies has given the project wide circulation. I have had inquiries from many parts of the Dominion and from Australia for copies of the plan outlned. To meet the requests made I am having a full report of the conference printed. I feel convinced in my own mind that efficient organisation along the lines of the proposal would be of incalculable benefit to not only sports bodies but to the people of the Dominion. It is what is needed in this country—sound physical culture and enjoyment in the methods of attaining it. We have the material, and that good feature is recognised by all countries that know New Zealanders." Mr. Parry said that a further conference was to take place with representatives of sports bodies toward the end of June.
