Theatregoers and picturegoers seek to spend a few hours of imagination, forgetful of the worries and cares ot lite, and in this role entertainment plays an important part in adjusting the balance of mentality. Frequently also, it is stimulating to plunge into the whirl of public affaire, as at an election time. But it is possible to combine the two extremes and to present an entertainment which is at once an intellectual stimulus, a fount ot wit and a soothing draught to the senses. This is the character of “Cappicade 1937.” Victoria University College’s annual extravaganza. This year it Col ]®2J, of two plavs, “The Plutocrats” and The Book of Bob,” and a short interlude, “Daze Bay Nights.” The form of the plays deserves special mention. The plot is a story based on events happening at present, or very recently, and is developed in a witty farcical style. Ballets and songs develop naturally as the plot unfolds. “The Plutocrats” is an imaginative drama of the consequences of setting Up a Labour Government in Hades, The Prime Minister, Mr. Sausage, his colleague, Mr. Mash, and the chorus of Labour Ministers set out on an intellectual basis to modernise the realm of the underworld. They meet Charon, the ferryman, and the Devil’s Own, a group of history's notorious women —Messalina, Lucrezia Borgia, Madame Pompadour, and many others.
