PROPAGANDA IN NEW GUINEA
Return of Germans Coming CHARGES BY BISHOP OF MELANESIA By Telegraph—l’ress Association. Hamilton, April 15. In the British mandated territory of New Guinea difficulty was being experienced in tracing a good deal of the missionary propaganda going on in New Britain, said the Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley, Bishop of Melanesia, in an address'to the General Synod. The Bishop said there was a good deal of propaganda being sgread in the territory giving people the definite impression that the day was coming when the Germans would come hack into possession of the territory. “The majority of the Roman Catholic clergy being German, they seem to be tlie only possible origin of the propaganda. I have no grudge against the Roman Catholic missionaries —good hick to them —but they are in a British administrative area, and no privileges they may enjoy should be abused to build up anti-British propaganda.” The Bishop said that the Australian Government was definitely trying to find out the source of these constant reports that the day of the return of the Germans was coming. 1 cry serious charges were being made against the Australian administration. “A« Englishmen and churchmen we should see that the trust is carried out.” ho added. “If any bishops have clergy with Roman Catholic tendencies—if they send them to me for a while they will return members of the Church of England or Methodists when they see the Roman Catholic missionaries' methods.”
