Smart—Sawden

The wedding took place in the Brooklyn Baptist Church recently of Bessie Grace, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Sawden. and Gordon Percival, second son of Mr. and Mrs. AV. H. Smart, Blenheim. The officiating minister was the Rev. H. E. Edridge, and Mrs. H. Haigh was at the organ. Miss Ethel Turner sang “Because” while the register was being signed. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a gown of elephant crepe, made with a double peaked neck, and slightly leg-of-mutton sleeves. The back was finished with a row of tiny silver buttons, and the skirt formed a square train. She carried a shower bouquet of roses, lilies, and sweet sultans, and her chantilly lace veil (lent by her sister) was held in place with a halo of twisted silver lame.

The two bridesmaids, Miss Verna Menelaws, and Miss Nola Smart (Blenheim), sister of the bridegroom, wore slim-fitting frocks of green cloque, with short leg-of-mutton sleeves and finished at the back with silver girdles. Little green petal cocktail hats were worn, and bouquets of roses, lilies and carnations were carried. Mr. M. Quirke was best man, and Mr. Malcolm Rainsford was groomsman, Mr. Harry Haigh acting as usher. A reception was held at the Mayfair Cab.aret, when an item by Miss Teeboon, and a tap dance by Vernlce Aston were much appreciated. To receive her guests, the bride’s mother wore a gown of black chiffon velvet and a hat to tone. Her bouquet was of autumntinted flowers. The bridegroom’s mother wore a gown of crinkled georgette and bat to tone. Roses, to harmonise with her frock, formed her bouquet. The bride travelled in a smart tunic frock of navy and white, with hat and accessories to tone. Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Smart left by the Awatea for Sydney and Melbourne for their honeymoon.

Carlyle—Kivell The wedding took place recently at the Church of lhe Immaculate Conception, Stratford, of Molly, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. J. Kivell, Stratford, and Harold, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C.arlyle, Marton. Father Kavanagh performed the ceremony. The bride’s pink embossed georgette gown was designed on classical lines, with fitting skirt and long oval train The square neckline was finished with tiny ribbon pleating. Worn well back on her hair was a coronet of pale pink gathered tulle, which fell into a long train. She carried a sheaf of flowers shaded from pale pink to deep cherry, with maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. M. Porter, Wellington, as matron of honour, and the Misses Cannon, Stratford, and Zina Kivell, 'Wellington’ cousin of the bridegroom, as bridesmaids. Mrs. Porter’s frock was of pale ping tinsel cloque, with trimmings of silver buttons. A wreath of silver leaves and pale pink rosebuds was worn in lief hair, and she carried a bouquet of shaded pink sweet peas and maidenhair fern. Gowns of silver grey cloque relieved with pale pink georgette were worn by the bridesmaids. They were’slightly trained, with two wide panels of pink georgette which fell from a folded waistband of silver cloque.

The bridegroom was attended by Mr Murray Thompson, Stratford, ‘ and Messrs. M. Porter, M’ellington, and Rex Kivell, Stratford, brother of the bride, were groomsmen.

A reception was held at the Foresters’ Hall, where Mrs. Kivell, assisted by Mrs. Carlyle, received about 70 guests.

Montgomery—Rose Knox Church, Masterton, was recently the scene of a pretty weddin" when Leslie Erena, third daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. M. Bose Upper Plain, Masterton, was married to Kenneth Cedric, younger son of Mrs H. Gordon and the late Mr. Montgomery, Wellington.

The bride, who was escorted by Mr. J. Ninnes, wore a gown of maize lace witli a long train. Iler tulle veil was arranged with a coronet of orange blossom and she carried a bouquet of deep cream gladioli. She was attended by her cousin, Mrs. W. Suisted

as matron-of-honour, who wore a dress of figured ivory-tinted satin and carried a bouquet of dahlias. Mr. G. Ryan was best man. A reception was afterward field at the Empire Hotel, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother. The bride travelled in a tailored navy costume. Thomson—Blackley The wedding of Barbara, elder daughter of Mrs. Blackley, Vivian Street, New Plymouth, and the late Dr. David Blackley, and James Scott, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Thomson, Devon Street, west, New Plymouth, took place at St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, during the week. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Thomson will live at Wellington.
