Steady and Remunerative

Freezing rates now set the market for nil classes of fat stock. The last to he so dominated was that for fat ewes. Until after January this mutton was making above freezing value at most selling centres throughout the North Island.

The works price of IS/- is now standard, except for superior lines or very early shorn ewes. Works report ewes as coining forward in large quantity, but there is little reason to believe that last season’s low killing will be exceeded by much, if at all.

The lamb price remains at SJd. a lb., and no change is expected. Lambs are coming forward in heavy supply, and the quality has been quite satisfactory these last few weeks. Wetherk are in only moderate supply. * * * Chiller cattle remain at 32/- a 1001 b. There was a prospect of the price being lower but a strong rise in hide values firmed that for cattle. “DAMPERS MADE BY GENTLEMEN”, A section for ’’dampers made by gentlemen” attracted five exhibits at the first quarterly horticultural show arranged by members of the Hamilton Methodist Church.
