FIRE IN LAMBTON QUAY" SHOP

Flames Soon Suppressed An outbreak of fire which might have had serious consequences if it had occurred at night caused live engines to be sent from tlie Central Fire Brigade Station to tlie Lambton Quay Shop of Kenner’s, Limited, furnishers, at 3.14 p.m. yesterday. A small quantity of waste paper on the floor of a cloakroom hud become ignited. According to tlie explanation given it was caused by a pipe left in the pocket of a mackintosh that was hanging on the wall above tlie paper. Fortunately only a bucket, extinguisher was needed to prevent the flames from spreading. Some of tlie floor-boards and the matchlining on one wall of the .small room were badly charred, and the blistered paint on the doors and other walls showed that these would not have taken long to catch fire.
