Pope Favours Fascism Against Communism
Vatican City, March 20.
A call to all nations to turn back “the red tide of godlessness aud chaos” was sounded by the Pope in his encyclical appealing to all Christians to combat Communism, prepared, hi.s doctors said, at the risk of hastening his death. lie called on all peoples to resist “the diabolical propaganda of Bolshevism.” Youths “more or less tainted with Communism” were exhorted to return “from slippery paths.” “We trust the echo of our volet? will reach every mind free from prejudice, every heart sincerely desirous of the good of mankind. Our words are now receiving sorry confirmation of (he spectacle of subversive ideas which we foresaw and foretold, and which are multiplying fearfully.” the encyclical stated.
. He urged a renewal of Christian life and a change from economic liberalism toward a corporate State on the Italian model in order to combat Communism.
