Two New Directors London, .March 28. The Bank of England, extending its policy of appointing to the directorate men experienced in other fields than banking, has invited .Mr. John Martin, prominent in Rand gold mining, and Mr. E. Bunbury, a recent director of Anglo-Oriental mining, to join the board. Mr. Martin spends much of his time it .South Africa, and it is a departure to appoint a director who is not a permanent resident of the United Kingdom.
Mr. John Martin is resident director in South Africa of the Centra 1 ] Mining and Investment Corporation. Born at Stirling, Scotland, in 1884, he is chairman of directors of Rand Mines Ltd. and chairman or a director or many Transvaal gold-mining and other companies. He is chairman of directors of Argus South African Newspapers, and of two printing and publishing companies. He was a member of the South African Economic and Wage Commission in 1926, and chairman of the Southern Rhodesia Railway Inquiry in 1929. The directors of the Bank of England for 1936 were Sir Alan Anderson Messrs, D. G. M. Bernard, G. M. Booth, L. J. Cadbury, IV. H. Clegg. P. A. Cooper Sir Andrew Duncan. Messrs. A. C. Gladstone. C.
