YACHTING REGATTA
Poor Fields on Final Day at Paremata CLOSE FINISHES IN STRONG BREEZE The final day's yachting at the Paremata Easter regatta provided the best racing of the competitions in a strong northerly wind. 'There were several exciting finishes as the ixiats came down the channel on a lead to the clubhouse aud in five races there were only seconds between first and second. The fields were very disappointing, due mainly to the disinclination of many competitors to face a stiff breeze after four days of intense holidaying. In the afternoon skippers were anxious to dry their gear and prepare to return with their boats to YVellington. The Idle Along race in the afternoon was abandoned as there were not sufficient starters. The Monotype Championship for Takapunas was not sailed owing to the strength of the wind, and the YY’atti Handicap, which was to have been omitted, was sailed in the morning in its place. Kitty won the Brady Shield with a total of 39 points for the three races, and Impudence was second with 35. Detailed results, giving handicaps and actual finishing times, are as follows :— YY’atti Handicap. Takapuna Class: Started 11 a.m. Marie (scr.), 12.15.2 1 Robin (3.30). 1'2.15.5 2 Twink hit Grey's buoy and retired, and Juanette did not get away until alter her starting time, and did not finish. Marie was lying second round Shearer's buoy, but Robin had a reef down and the extra sail was enough for Marie to be three seconds ahead in a fast finish.
