MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED

Accident on Hill at Miramar COLLISION WITH CAR Ealal injuries were received by Neville Lewis Sliarpin. motor mechanic, aged 19, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a motor-ear in Awa Street, Miramar, shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday. Sharpin, who lived with his parents at 57 Darlington Road. Miramar, received a compound fracture of his skull and a fractured right leg. Death is believed to have been instantaneous. The accident occurred at a bend in the road, which has a fairly steep grade. Sharpin is thought to have been testing his machine. He was seen driving up the hill, and he was on the downward journey when the collision occurred. He was the eldest of two sons, and was employed by the Post and Telegraph Department.

NEWTOWN ACCIDENT

Three People Taken To Hospital

As the result of a motor collision at the corner of Wilson and Owen Streets, Newtown, Wellington, at about midday on Easter Saturday, five members of one family were injured, three of them being taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. Those taken to hospital were Mrs. E. Hayes and her two daughters, the Misses M. and N. Hayes, all of whom were in a fairly serious condition. Yesterday, however, it was reported that the condition of all showed improvement. Their car, which was driven by Mr. Kenneth Hayes, collided with a taxi driven by Mr. Dale, and was damaged substantially by the impact. Miss M. Hayes received lacerated wounds to the scalp, concussion and shock, and injuries to her feet, and her sister almost similar injuries, but in her case they were more severe. Mrs. Hayes suffered from shock, bruises and abrasions to the right side, and the driver suffered slight shock and concussion. Another passenger, Keith Hayes, was unhurt. STRUCK BY TAXI Accident in Adelaide Road Mr. W. S. Gaskin, railway employee. 32 Nottingham Street, Karori, received injuries to his right leg when he was struck by a taxi in Adelaide Road last night. Mr. Gaskin was preparing to board a tram when he was struck. He was taken to the hospital by the Free Ambulance. TWO YOUTHS INJURED Level Crossing Smash By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, March 28. A level-crossing accident on Saturday afternoon resulted in two youths, D. Anderson and Kyte, being admitted to hospital. A brother of Anderson w,as also injured, but less seriously. The crossing is an open one, but the motorists neither saw nor heard the engine, which was travelling light. The engine-driver said ho thought the van was about to stop. There was a heavy wind at the time. Although the whistle was blown twice, the warning went unheeded. The van was badly damaged. SPECTACULAR CRASH Motor-car Hits Service Bus Dominion Special Service. Auckland, March 28. A spectacular motor collision in which three persons suffered only minor injuries occurred at a bend on the Great South Road near Te Kauwhata on Saturday. A service car from Hamilton to Auckland met a motor-car travelling southward, the latter striking the right side of the bus before careering about 44 yards and crashing into an iron telegraph post, which it bent. The car ran about another 45 feet and then rolled over twice. There were about 12 passengers in the bus, in which broken glass caused facial cuts to Mr. Hilaries Tatter,sail, aged 73, of Napier. The car was driven by Mr. Leo Griffiths, Kohimarama, and it carried five adults, two boys and a baby three months old. The wife of the driver, Mrs. Griffiths, aged 34. and Mrs. Esther Diifty, aged 00, suffered slight injuries to I lie back. None of the injured persons was admitted to hospital. The service car was able to proceed under its own power, but the car was damaged almost beyond repair. DEATH AFTER COLLISION By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, March 27.

James Swannell Foster, aged 72, who was admitted to hospital on March 19 after a collision witli a motor-car, died yesterday. An inquest was opened and was adjourned for a postmortem examination.
