INDIAN CRISIS
Congress Party Not To Take Office
MADRAS AND BOMBAY Leader’s Hope to Terminate Constitution ALTERNATE MINISTRIES By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright (Received March 28, 7.30 p.m. i London, March 27. The Delhi correspondent of "The Times” states that political circles are pessimistic over the situation which has arisen through the leaders of the Indian National Congress Party attempting to obtain from the Governors of certain provinces assurances that they would not use their special powers to hinder the party programme when the Congress Party took office. It is believed that in the discussions with the Governors the party demands were pitched so high that the Governors were unable to accept them without automatically violating the new Constitution, which, it should be remembered, the Congress Party, according to a recent resolution, aims at wrecking. A message from Bombay states that a further development in the constitutional crisis is the Congress Party’s refusal to take office in the Madras and Bombay provinces. Similar action is expected in four other provinces. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, President of the Congress, expressed satisfaction and added that he hoped it would soon terminate the Constitution. The authorities are taking steps to provide alternative Ministries. JUDGES APPOINTED (British Official Wireless.) (Received March 2S, 6.30 p.m.) Rugby, March 27.
