AT WAIPUKURAU

Fields For To-day’s Racing (By The Watcher.) The fields at Waipukurau are mainly comprised of horses from local stables. The going will be hard. Single pool betting will operate. The following horses mav bo supported in their engagements: Maiden Race —Parry and King’s Hope. Hatuma Hack—Maahanui and Fossiekcr. Ruataniwha Hack — Tractile and Ytha n. Waipukurau Cup—Passion Flower and Soho, Pukeora Handicap—Money Raid and Felicitation. Ladies’ Handicap—Umpire and Marching Song. Purimu Handicap—Recitation and Nereus. Flying Handicap—Lavina and Plato. The card is as follows : —

Silver Ring Lame. At Riccarton on Saturday morning most interest was centred in a gallop over nine furlongs between Silver lung. Pouty. Argentic and Sunee. Silver Kin„ hopped away smartly from Argentic and Sunee, while Pouty was slow to move oft and lost several lengths. There was. however, not much between the quartet ai the half-mile post, but Silver Pung then suddenly retired and Argentic carried on in front and finished well clear of Sunee and Ponty together. It was not possible accurately to time them from the ninefurlong post, but they ran the last nine in 112 2-5. Argentic gave a most impressive display, but both Sunee and Pontv also finished on well. Silver Rin.was 'a long way back at the end, and later in the morning he developed severe lameness in a shoulder, which no doubt accounted for his poor showing. Should Silver Ring not be able to start to-day Argentic will no doubt be ridden by A. Ellis.
