Ministerial. The Hon. P. Fraser, who will act as Prime Minister during the absence from New Zealand of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, was congratulated at a meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board yesterday by Mr. T. R. Barrelupon his accession to such a high office. Mr. Barrer said ho did not know of any other member of the board who had achieved the honour of occupying the position of Acting-Prime Minister. It was doubly pleasing to the board as Air. Fraser had climbed from the lowest rung of the ladder. Mr. W. 11. Price said lie was confident that Mr. Fraser would worthily fill his new position.

The Rt. Hon. Sir .Michael Myers (Chief Justice), and Lady Myers, were among the passengers by the Rangatira for Lyttelton lust uiglir. Sir Charles Statham, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, accompanied by Lady Statham, is visiting Dunedin. Sir Harold Beauehamp is visiting Napier. He expects to return to Wellington immediately after the Easter holidays. Sir Harry Lauder and his niece, Miss Greta Lauder, returned to Wellington from the south yesterd.ay, and are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel. Sir Harry, in kilts and carrying a substantial plaid shawl, attended the cricket match between M.C.C. and New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in the afternoon.

Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M.. left Wellington for the south last night. Professor P. W. Burbidge, Auckland, is visiting Wellington. Mr. G. Nathan, 'Wellington, left for the South Island last night. Ml'. P. .1. O’Regan, Wellington, left for the north last ..-light, accompanied by Mrs. O’Regan. Mr. J. R. Lester, Christchurch, passed through Wellington yesterday on his way to Napier, where he will judge the elocution section at the competitions festival. The Very Rev. Archimandrite Antouious Mobayed, of the St. Nicholas Syrian Orthdox Church, Melbourne, arrived at Auckland from Sydney this week to do mission work in the Dominion.

-Mr. W. I. Clark, J.P., senior member of tlie Wellington Licensing Committee, lias resigned in consequence of his removal from the electorate. Mr. Clark has been a member of the committee since 1922.

Mr. G. McNamara, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, left Auckland by tlie Niagara on Tuesday to attend tlie Empire conference of postal administrative officers which will precede the Imperial Conference. Mrs. McNamara accompanied him. Lieutenant-Colonel G. 11. J. Skelling-ton-Smyth. a brother-in-law of tlie Governor-General, Viscount Galway, whose guest he has been during a visit to New Zealand, has left for England. Mr. J. T. Martin, who for some years lias held the position of accountant at tlie head office of Messrs. Ross and Glendining, Ltd., Dunedin, has been promoted to the position of accountant at Wellington.

Mr. C. M. Turrell, who is to leave shortly on a visit to Great Britain, was granted six months’ leave of absence by tlie Wellington Harbour Board yesterday. The chairman, Mr. I). J. McGowan, said that Mr. Turrell was tlie oldest member of the board, and one and all joined in wishing him bon voyage and a safe return.

Detective-Sergeant E. C. Jarrold, Wellington, lias been transferred io tlie Taranaki district, and will be stationed at New Plymouth.

A bequest to Victoria University College by the late Mr. J. Mackay of any books in his collection which it might select, was reported to a meeting of the collegf council last night. It was stated that 150 volumes, mostly relating lo New Zealand history, bad been chosen, ami that they would form a valuable addition to the college library.
