Shooting Season
Tlie shootiug season in the Wellington acclimatisation district is gazetted as being from May 1 until July 31 for cock pheasants, Californian quail, hares, and australian quail, and from May 1 to June 30 for grey duck, mallard duck, and shoveller duck. The black swan season is from May Ito 51,ay 14 and from June 24 to June 30. In May two pheasants, three black swans and 15 ducks are tlie daily permissible limits; and in June 10 ducks is the limit. No Foreign Onions.
A Customs order was gazetted last night prohibiting the importation of onions, save with Ministerial consent. The order comes into force to-day.
Indusfi'ial Unions. The current Gazette contains notice of the proposed cancellation of the registration under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, of the following unions: Ngahauranga Freezing Workers' Union: Dunedin Clothing Manufacturers’ Union of Employers; and Timaru Painters’ Union of Employers. Unless cause is shown to tho contrary cancellation of registration will be granted in six weeks.
Conscience Money. The secretary to the Treasury, Mr. G. C. Rodda, acknowledges in this week’s Gazette the receipt of the following sums forwarded by persons unknown as conscience-money to the New Zealand Government: 5/- to the Post and Telegraph Department; 1/- to the Customs Department; £1 and 4/- to the Railways Department; £9/15/- and £3 to the Land and Income Tax Department.
Shooting Licences Dearer. Regulations issued this week supplementary to the Gazette include notification of the increase in the shooting licence fee from £1 to £l/5/ —an increase designed to provide funds for increased breeding and improved facilities. The areas to which the new levy will apply are Auckland, Bay of Islands, Hobson, Manganui-Whangaroa, Whangarei, Rotorua, East Coast, Waiapu, Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay, Feilding, and the 'Wellington acclimatisation districts. Constitution of College Council. The chairman of the Victoria College Council, Mr. P. Levi, and the chairman of the college professorial board, Professor F. F. Miles, were appointed by the council last night a committee to confer with a committee of the Court of Convocation on the proposed alteration of the constitution to allow student representation on the council. This action was taken on a suggestion contained in a letter from the students’ association, which enclosed a letter from the Minister of Education stating that he would be pleased to secure the necessary amendment of the law.
