Convicted Man’s Appeal Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 2.3. Paul Nodwell, who was found guilty of arson at a recent sitting of the Supreme Court at Wanganui, and fined £5OO, has lodged an appeal against the sentence, which lie alleges was too severe. The hearing will come before the Court of Appeal in Wellington on April 7, Mr. V. B. Willis, Wanganui, acting for appellant. Nodwell’s trial was conducted before Mr. Justice Smith, who said he proposed to make the prisoner feel the consequences of his crime through his purse. The sentence stipulated that if the fine of £5OO was not paid within two days. Nodwell was to be detained in prison for a period not exceeding two years.
