ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY
Man Remanded for Sentence By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plyinonlli, March 23. The escape of William Joseph Fox from the custody of a warder at Stratford and his recapture two days later at Woodville were described in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Fox admitted his guilt and was committed to rhe Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. Fox was recently sentenced to two years’ hard labour and two years’ detention for aggravated assault on a police officer at Aotuhia. He was being taken with another prisoner to Waikeria prison, and when at the Stratford railway station lie disappeared while the warder’s attention was distracted for a moment.
