CRASH INTO POLE

Car Extensively Damaged

As a result of the steering gear giving way a motor-car driven by Mr. F. M. Lawrence, Island Bay, struck a telegraph pole in Tasman Street shortly before midnight last night, and was extensively damaged. Mr. Lawrence and two women occupants of the car, while badly shaken, escaped injury. The car, a five-seater touring model, was being driven up Tasman Street from the direction of the Basin Reserve and was climbing a rise when the steering gear became defective. It swerved across the road, struck a telegraph pole and turned upside-down. Several Telephone lines were broken away.

The front of the car was wrecked, the front wheels broken and the hood collapsed. The crash was heard by nearby residents who were quickly on the scene to render assistance. As the occupants escaped almost unscathed medical aid was unnecessary, and all three were able to go to their homes.
