KARORI GOLF CLUB
A Year of Progress Tlie Karori Golf Club held its annual general meeting in tlie Parish Hall, Karori, this week, when the president, Mr. W Smith, presided over about 70 members. In his address Mr. Smith referred especially to the improvements effected in the course. In spite of difficulties in the earlier part of the year, work on the new lay-out was so far advanced that, the ehi'b would be able to open on it (lie following Saturday, though it. might lie two or three months before, the. last <>£ the new greens was tit. for play. .Unpaid tribute to the work of Hie officebearers and management committee of Hie club. Of these the vice-president, Mr. A. S. Farquhar, and the treasurer, Mr. R P. Levien, were retiring from their office’s, and Messrs. A. K. Robson and AV. I’. Walker from Hie committee. The past year hud been both successful for the club and enjoyable for the mem-, hers. In spite of heavy expenditure on the new lay-out and on plant the finances were in a healthy condition, and prospects for the coming season were excellent. The active membership closed at 204, as compared witli 129 for the preceding yea.r. Officers for the ensuing year wore elected as follows: —Patron, Dr. Graham Robertson: president, Mr. V\'. Smith; vice-prcsidenC Mr. R. P. Levien : captain, Mr. G. (’. Sinimiss; hon. secretary. Mr. .1. R. hon.-treasurer. Mr. A. K. Simms; non. solicitor, Mr. C. H. Hain*, management committee. Messrs. .1. W. Craig, R. IV. Gunn, A. W. Gunson, I. G. Mclntosh. B. T. O’Connell, R. A. Westbrook; lion, auditor, Mr. G. J. J. Foil. A vote of thanks was passed to tlie lion, auditor and Hie lion, solicitor, Tlie women’s captain, Mrs. G. H. Munden, reported that Hie following were elected to the women's committee: Captain, Mrs. G. H. Munden; secretary, Miss G. 11. Hoare: committee. Mesdames K. H. Allen, R. P. Levien. E. H. R. Green, Misses S. Kissell mid I*. Shotlander.
CLUB COMPETITIONS
Karori to Open Winter Season
Tlie Karori Golf Club will open its winter season to-morrow, when n mixed foursome competition will lie played, beginning at 12.30 p.m. Members may arrange their own partners, mid for those who do not partners will lie arranged at tlie clubhouse. The mid-week opening day will lie on Tuesday, when tlie competition will lie a fourbali best-ball commencing at 11.15 a.m., players to arrange their own partners.
Mornington Ladies’ Opening Day
In bright sunshine, with a light souihprly breeze, the Mornington Ladies’ Midweek Golf Club opened its winter season on Wednesday with an IS-holr stroke coinnet.ition. Several now members have joined up nnd the club hopes for a successful season. The best cards were returned by Mrs. S. Barron. 100-33-67; Mrs. 1. Barrelt, 06-26-70; Mrs. K. Smith, 104-32-72.
