“WICKED AND CRUEL”

Judge on Divorce Laws London, March 10. Several High Court judges have recently protested vigorously against aspects of the divorce laws. The latest outburst was made by Mr. Justice Swift, at the Birmingham Assizes, in a case where a husband and wife who had been separated for 14 years, both having made other alliances, sought a discretionary divorce. “They want to be separated in law.” said Mr. Justice Swift, “and why not. when in truth they have been separated so long? But so that this may bo done they must bring their daughter to say that her mother is living with a man who is not her father, while ho is living with a woman who is not her mot iter. "The divorce laws of this country, to my mind, are wicked and cruel I wish some of those learned ecclesiastics who has so much concern for the well-being of society would come and sit here. It would not be iong before the divorce laws would be altered.”
