POST FOR MR. BRUCE
Report Believed to Have Substance DEFENCE BOARD HEAD By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received March 12. 7.20 p.m.) London, March 11. The London correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” says he believes the report that the Australian High Commissioner, Mr. S M. Bruce, is to become chairman of an Imperial Defence Board has substance, although the suggestion of the establishment of a board has not yet been accepted. He adds that there has been for a long time a general desire to see Mr. Bruce put his powers to wider use in Empire affairs. He created an unusual impression at Geneva. There is also a strong movement in influential quarters to appoint Mr. Bruce to succeed Sir Ronald Lindsay as British Ambassador to Washington This would be an historic appointment, as he would be the first Dominion statesman appointed to such a position. However. Mr Bruce's experience and .abilities would have better opportunities as head of the defence organisation. the correspondent adds.
