MISS BETTY NUTHALL
Engagement Announced The engagement was officially announced recently of Miss Betty Nuthall to Mr. David Alexander Barclay, of Paisley, Scotland, says a writer in a London paper. Mr. Barclay is 34 aud Miss Nuthall Miss Nuthall became famous for her tennis prowess when a tiny child. I veruomber seeing her when she was little taller than the height of the net, and even then she tjt the ball harder than most grown-ups. Iler record at the age of 17 has been unequalled by any player of that age. She won the British hard court championship when she was 16 and also rhe Surrey bard court championship the same year. At 17 she defeated Mrs. Mallorv at Wimbledon. Mrs. Mallory was'the holder of the United States championship that year. A tew years later Miss Nuthall won the Llilted States championship, being the only Englishwoman ever to do s<\ -Mr. Barclay is a chartered accountant and met Miss Nuthall at the Stuart Hotel, Richmond, where Miss Nut ha 11 is the manageress. He plays golf and hockey and was a member of the Scottish Lawn Tennis Association before coming to London.
