t Strathnaver Arrives With 1049 Passengers PROMINENT TRAVELLERS Dominion Special Service. I Auckland, March 12. Carrying 1049 passengers, the 22.000ton P. and O. liner Strathnaver arrived at Auckland this afternoon. She had had a good-weather cruise from Sydney and Brisbane. The Strathnaver is making the last cruise of the present summer season, and in addition to many Australian passengers carried a number of round-trip English passengers. Among the prominent passengers were two Australian political leaders, Sir Herbert Hudd, of South Australia, and the Hon. Norman Keenan, leader of the National Party of West Australia. Both were cruise passengers enjoying a brief spell from their political duties. They will be guests of the New Zealand Government while here. The most prominent English passenger was Viscount Gienapp, son of Lord Inchcape, managing director of the P. and 0. Company. He is 19 years old and is still a student at Eton College. He travelled with his parents to Bombay, and while they are visiting Lady Inchcape’s parents he is making a round trip. He was joined at Sydney by his cousin, Mr. Donald Mackay, senior partner of the firm of McDonald, Hamilton and Co., Australian representatives of the P. and O. Line. They are making a rapid tour of the North Island by car, leaving to-day for Taupo for a short fishing visit and later joining the Strathnaver at Wellington. Extensive arrangements had been made by the Government Tourist Bureau for the entertainment of tourist passengers. Immediately the Strathnaver berthed several large parties left by ear for Rotorua and Waitomo Caves. About 75 tourists travelled by car to Wellington, via Waitomo, Rotorua, Wairakei, Chateau Tongariro and Wanganui, and 40 travelled to Waitomo and Rotorua, rejoining the ship at Auckland. The largest party of 200 will travel to Rotorua by train to-morrow, and 80 will also go by car. Another 100 will go by train to Rotorua, then by ear to Chateau Tongariro, and finally by train to Wellington. Parties will also go by car to Wellington, via Hamilton, Rotorua and New Plymouth, and by rail and car via Rotorua and Napier. Sight-seeing trips round the city on Saturday afternoon have also been arranged. The vessel will leave for Wellington at 11 p.m. to-morrow and will sail for Sydney from there at 6.30 p.m. on Monday.
