FALL INTO HARBOUR
Elderly Man’s Death
Apparently as the result of a fit, an elderly man fell from the Taranaki Street Wharf into the harbour shortly before 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Men working on the Holmglen saw the man sitting on a stringer, and then he fell. Messrs. Joseph Turner and .Michael Roach rescued him and he was taken to hospital by thp Free Ambulance. Attempts at resuscitation failed.
He was later identified as a man who until three days ago was staying at the Salvation Army Workmen’s Home, Buckle Street, under the name of McKenzie, although it is believed his real name was J. McKay. lie had been in Wellington some three or four months and is thought to have come to Wellington from Dunedin. His right min was missing and in bis pocket was found a, pair of spectacles, with the letters “McK” on a tab. The case boro the words. “William Dawson. Nelson” —the firm issuing the spectacles. His age was estimated at 68.
