WAIKANAE PARTY
A very enjoyable afternoon was given for Airs. Higgins and her daughters at Waikanae on Thursday. They will depart for England shortly. The ball was beautifully decorated with flowers and foliage. Hydrangeas, poppies, blue agapautlius and various other flowers, combined with brightly-covered tea tables, added to the cheerful appearance of the room.
Airs. G. A. Monk (Reikioraugi) presented Airs. Higgins with a sheaf of flowers in shades of blue and pink, and the Misses Higgins with bouquets. Mrs. Monk spoke of the work Airs. Higgins had done for the Blunket Society, of which she had been secretary for ten years. On behalf of the Women's Institute, of which Airs. Higgins was also it member, Airs. Monk wished her a pleasant and happy voyage, with a speedy return to Waikanae, Airs. Wilson, of the Church Guild, spoke of Mrs. Higgins' work for the church. Airs. Collins, for the school children and teachers, spoke of Airs. Higgins’ work among the children. Mrs. Alonk also presented the guest of honour with a fountain pen and writing case.
Airs. Higgins thanked everyone for their gifts. Afternoon tea was handed round, and items were given by Airs. Alonk and Aliss Parata, the latter singing a farewell in Maori.. A competition was won by Airs. 11. Brown.
