TO VISIT ENGLAND

Mr. A. P. Smith Entertained

As a farewell gathering arranged by the committee of the Wellington Drapers’ and Boot Retailers' Association, Mr. A. I’. Smith, managing director of Janies Smith, Ltd., was entertained at morning tea this week in James Smith's tea room, before his departure for England. Mr. H. 0. Pittendrigh presided over an attendance fully representative of the drapery and boot trade in Wellington, and made eulogistic reference to Mr. Smith's many services in the promotion of good feeling and cordial relationship between members of the trade in the Dominion. On behalf of the 'Wellington members, he .presented Mr. Smith with a gold pen and pencil. Mr. IV. Simm (manager of the D.1.C.), and Mr. H. Smith (C. Smith, Ltd.), also expressed the regard in which Mr. Smith was held by his trade associates. Mr. Smith will be accompanied by his wife, daughter and two sons, and though his visit to England is mainly a pleasure one, the hope was expressed that he would attend one of the meetings of the important English Drapers’ Chamber of Trade. Mr. Smith is this year's president of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers and Boot Retailers, and it was felt that value would accrue from his contact with the important trade organisation in London.
