NEARLY COMPLETED
Widening Jackson Street
Within a short time the widening of Jackson Street. Petone, will be completed. A contract lias been let for the setting back of Butland's building, between Nelson Street and Richmond Street, and the contractor will be able to begin work on March 1. The setting back of Armstrong’s building, which is next door to Butland’s building, is under consideration, and negotiations are nearly completed. After these two buildings have been set back the widening of Jackson Street will have been completed, except for Hepworth’s building, on the eastern side of the post office. In this case, however, only the front of the building will have to be altered.
Butland's building was taken by the Petone Borough Council under the Public Works Aet, but the council has had to use’the Aet only three times in the negotiations with property owners. In one instance the proclamation was revoked, as the owner of the building wished to take his property back.
