NAPIER HOUSING
Building Boom Coming
Dominion Special Service.
Hastings. February 26. Although the Napier business area has been rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake, there are some areas of the town which are in urgent need of a clean-up, and this morning Mr. J. Lee, M.P. in charge of the State housing scheme, arrived in Napier to deal with the problem. A civic welcome was accorded him in Napier, and in his reply to an address of welcome accorded him by the Mayor, Mr. C. O. Morse, Mr. Lee said there was a pretty subsatntial buldingi boom- coming, and that building artisans were going to be in keen demand. “Things are definitely on the move, and Napier is going to get its share of the increased activity,” he added. “Nothing cheap or shoddy will be tolerated. We are putting in concrete foundations, tiles on the roof, and so on.” After inspecting certain parts of Napier where the housing scheme will apply, and conferring with the Borough Council and the Napier Harbour Board regarding the possibilities of the new Marewa block, Mr. Lee will proceed to Hastings, probably to-morrow.
