AGREEMENT REACHED
Footwear Dispute Ends Full agreement was reached on the previously unsettled portions of the male and female footwear workers’ dispute at yesterday morning’s meeting of the' Conciliation Council, presided over by Mr. M. J. Reardon, conciliation commissioner. The minimum award rate for males was fixed at 2/3J an hour, or £4/31/8 a week; the rate for journey women in the female award is to be 1/3J All other points in both sections were agreed upon on the basis of the counterclaims of the employers, with the exception of a new clause to be incorporated as follows: —“Nothing i n this award shall be deemed to be incompatible with any legislation that is passed during its currency which might have the effect of improving conditions for those engaged in the industry.” ' A special section was for certain processes? in the manufacture of slippers, for which the minimum rate for journeymen was settled at 2/2J an hour.
The proportion of boys or youths was to be not more than two juniors to three journeymen.
The duration of the award is two years.
