WILL THE WORLD RUN OUT OF PETROL?
According to experts who have been investigating the world’s known resources of oil shale, should the time arrive when petroleum crude oil supplies are exhausted, there are reserves from which motor fuel can be extracted by the cracking process to operate all the motor-vehicles now registered in the world (37,000,000) for more than 400 years. The world’s potential shale oil production is estimated at 300,000 million barrels of 42 gallons. The wholesale value of the petrol consumed yearly throughout the world is,about £500,000,00.0 and represents about one-half of all petroleum products produced annually. Heavy fuel oils constitute about one-sixth and lubricants one-tenth.
