INFANTILE PARALYSIS

Case Notifietl in Dunedin

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Dunedin, February 7.

Only one ease of infantile paralysis has been notified in Otago since Friday. The patient, who was admitted to hospital to-day, is a gin of six. She is slightly paralysed. She had been staying at Kaka Point and was on holiday from Roxburgh.

CHILDREN' AT PICTURES

Audiences Only Normal

Wellington city and suburban picture theatres were not attended on Saturday by the bumper juvenile audiences which managers had expected to accompany the lifting of the ban on children under 12 years, enforced since the prevalence of infantile paralysis first caused concern in the middle of December. Audiences in general were about the same size as they would have been had there never been any restriction. Even theatres showing films which are known to he strongly attractive to youngsters, did only the same amount of business that would have been expected on a normal Saturday afternoon. The disappointing attendances were assigned to various causes. It was suggested that some parents are still diffident at allowing their children to go among crowds, while children themselves may have got out of the habit of Saturday afternoon at the pictures and were' not easily tempted indoors on such a sunny day. The theatres expect to do better next Saturday.
